Low-Key & High Style City Wedding
If you think simple means boring and casual means not-on-trend, then today’s post is about to prove the complete opposite! Mixing their modern style with a laid-back atmosphere, Chris and Michelle’s wedding day brought the best personal touches and made for a day that was 100 percent them! Food trucks, beautiful bouquets, one gorgeous wedding dress, and more await your eyes in our favorite photos below, all captured by Emily-Melissa Photography!
How did you meet? Tell us about the proposal.
Michelle: Chris and I met online in 2013. We both went to the same college, graduated the same year, had similar friend groups, lived a few blocks from each other, and even lived in New Orleans at the same time--all without ever meeting (we think). Our first date was so easy because we had SO MUCH to talk about. Chris proposed in 2017 at our apartment. It was very low-key and perfect. We custom-designed my engagement ring at Mineralogy using a diamond my grandfather had given me for my high school graduation. Chris also gave me an orchid (my favorite flower) which surprisingly re-bloomed a month before our wedding!
Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day?
Michelle: The goal for our wedding day was to throw as fun a party as possible with our closest friends and family. We knew we wanted a short, personal ceremony so we chose a dear friend to serve as our celebrant. We wanted to highlight our love for delicious food so we chose Big Wang's food truck and Blackdog Gelato to cater our big day.
Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?
Michelle: We went for minimal decor and lit a bunch of candles throughout the venue. Floating World is beautiful as is and didn't require much work to make it look amazing.
What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?
Michelle: My bridesmaid and I had super simple neutral bouquets created for us by our florist. She did an amazing job!
Did you personalize the day in any way (food trucks, guest entertainment etc.)? What were some of your favorite parts of your wedding?
Michelle: Our entire day was personal--from the food truck, to our friend serving as our celebrant, to us playing DJ--everything was very "us." We also tried to be very intentional about working with and supporting small businesses.
What was the most anticipated or special moment of your wedding day?
Michelle: We were both so excited for our dear friend, Beaux, to serve as our celebrant and marry us. Our ceremony was perfect because he kept us laughing the entire time!
Do you have any wedding planning or marriage advice that you'd like to share with other couples planning their day?
Michelle: Wedding planning is tough! Everyone in your life will have an opinion and it's so hard to please everyone. Just remember YOU, the bride and groom, are top priority. It is ultimately your day--a day to celebrate you and your love for one another. Try not to sweat the small stuff. The day will be over in a flash and no one will remember/notice if anything went wrong.
