Romantic Golden Hour Engagement Session in Lincoln Park

High school sweethearts Katie and Scott headed to the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk for a romantic golden hour engagement session with Joshua Harrison Photography. Their fun-loving and incredibly sweet personalities were warm and bubbly; shining photo after photo. And speaking of bubbly, they brought that too! Along with their cute dog which posed perfectly. If you love natural light and romantic photos, this session is sure to inspire!

HOW THEY MET

Katie and Scott met in 11th-grade chemistry class! After a friend pointed out a cute guy in a football jersey at the beginning of the school year, Katie started to notice him every day. She had to go out of her way to meet Scott, since he was super quiet!

HOW THEY FELL IN LOVE

Scott was Katie’s first boyfriend, and the only boy she ever introduced to her parents. When they first started dating Scott was so quiet at the time, and so sweet in comparison to Katie’s loud and outgoing personality. (I can really relate here — my wife, Jasmine, definitely provides enough extroversion for the both of us!) Katie says she and Scott complemented each other in all the best ways as they were dating (they stuck through six years of long-distance, too!) and they always had so much fun together.

THE PROPOSAL

Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic, Scott had to re-do his proposal plans a few times, but he eventually landed on a surprise dinner for Katie. After asking her to get all dressed up to go out, he took her to Lincoln Park, where he’d set up a beautiful picnic under the iconic Honeycomb sculpture that commands an impressive view of the Chicago skyline.

Scott thought of all the little details when he proposed! He had their picnic perfectly set up under the Honeycomb with flowers, champagne, and some snacks…and most importantly, their fur baby, Niko the pomeranian!

Katie says Scott’s Chicago proposal was very poetic since they started their lives together in the Windy City after going long distance for six years!

THE ENGAGEMENT LINCOLN PARK NATURE BOARDWALK CHICAGO IL

Since Katie and Scott got engaged at the Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk, it seemed only natural to plan an engagement session there, too! Our September afternoon session was filled with beautiful golden light, and Katie and Scott planned outfits in fall tones — a tie-in to their rustic-themed 2021 wedding plans!

Much like the actual proposal itself, the engagement Lincoln Park Nature Boardwalk would not have been complete with out a few very important things: A picnic blanket, champagne, and of course, their puppy! Niko definitely stole the show with his natural good looks and cute plaid bandana. Niko joined Katie and Scott from some fun photo opportunities amongst the boardwalk’s native prairie plants before Katie and Scott popped open their champagne to relive some of the good vibes from the proposal picnic.

From there, we enjoyed adventuring across the boardwalk to create more beautiful images beneath the Honeycomb, where Katie and Scott practiced some of their wedding dance moves! We ended our time together with a few portraits (including Niko, of course!) looking out over the Chicago skyline from atop the bridge over the lagoon.
