Move Over 2022, It’s Time for These 2023 Wedding Trends
Written by Curator Gina Anderson of Urban Allure Events
As we start to close out the 2022 wedding season and ring in a new year, these are the trends I’m seeing and planning for that are taking over for my 2023 couples. And let me tell you, I AM HERE FOR ALL OF THEM!
Photography
Say “see ya later” to the heavily sepia tinted wedding photos or the light, bright, airy and HELLO to these popular styles - artistic, blur-motion, candid, natural light, editorial and documentary.
Sustainability
Sustainability is becoming a bigger part of the conversation around weddings. More and more couples are using their special day as an opportunity to reduce their impact, whether that means locally sourced food selections, nature as your wedding backdrop and decor, repurposing floral arrangements throughout the event and items that can be reused or re-gifted when the wedding day is done.
Floral / decor
I’m noticing couples choosing more vintage-inspired, petite bouquets with delicate florals like Baby’s Breath, Dahlias, Lisianthus and Sweet Pea. This trend continues into the floral arrangements as couples want more natural, almost wildflower designs bursting with color, texture and dimension. The best part is that you can go as grand as you want or keep it minimal and it’s still stunning. I truly could not love it more!
Outfit Changes
Why wear one outfit when you can have multiple throughout your event? The outfit change trend is here to stay! Starting with more formal attire, slowly moving into something more comfortable for dancing and finally ending with chic loungewear at the afterparty.
Entertainment
Yes, DJs will always be popular, but as people move towards giving their guests a full interactive experience we’re seeing couples incorporate live performances, professional dancers, drag queen shows, aerial performers, live painters and more!
Food & Beverage
It’s not just about cocktails, it’s now about creative, delicious mocktails, even CBD-infused versions. Couples are thinking of all their guests and want to be inclusive when it comes to their bar offerings. We’re also starting to see couples move away from the traditional plated meals and opt for satellite stations, grazing tables or portable pizza ovens and making it a unique meal experience for guests.
Destination
The return of destination weddings is in full force! I’m so excited to see couples celebrate abroad again and create multi-day itineraries for guests to enjoy together. With welcome parties, daytime activities, sight-seeing and day-after festivities, it feels more immersive and celebratory for everyone.
I can’t wait to see how our couples incorporate these trends into their day! If these ideas excite you, but you’re unsure how to execute on them, we’re here for you!
