5 Ideas for Chicago Rainy Day Wedding Photos

Oh no! Your wedding day is approaching and the forecast is rain!

You’d hoped to do your photos outdoors, but all is not lost. There are some popular Chicago locations that are great back-ups in case of rain.

A couple of these ideas require some advance planning, but it’s always a good idea to have a back-up plan just in case the weather isn’t ideal. Make sure to discuss your rain plans with your photographer well before your wedding day.

Did you know?
According to tradition, rain on your wedding day signifies good luck! A knot that becomes wet is difficult to untie, so when you tie the knot on a rainy day, your marriage won’t unravel!

Also, keep in mind that your photos will be beautiful regardless of the weather. It’s your wedding day, after all! So relax, knowing that you’ve set up a rain plan just in case — and you might find that your rainy day photos turned out better than your sunny day plans!

Chicago Riverwalk overhangs

The Riverwalk is a popular location for wedding photos, but there are some beautiful places along the Riverwalk that provide protection from the rain, while still giving Chicago vibes in your photos.

Chicago Cultural Center

The Chicago Cultural Center is a good last-minute option if your day is rainy, but generally it’s only a good idea for just the two of you. So it’s not a great space for a large wedding party, and your photographer should not bring a tripod for photos. Also, be aware that if there are other events in the Center, some of the popular spots (like the Tiffany Dome), may be off limits.

Your hotel suite

Getting ready at a beautiful hotel suite? It can serve as a great back-up for some of your wedding day photos of the weather is crummy. Just be sure to get a very large suite with good lights so you have room for photos. NOTE: Many hotels in Chicago don’t allow photos in the public areas, so be sure to ask the hotel before making a plan.

The Conservatories

The Lincoln Park and Garfield Park Conservatories require an appointment and permit, but they are stunning locations for your photos. Small groups may be allowed for photos.

Under my umbrella

IMHO, some of the most charming photos are a couple in the rain! It might not be the best option for all your photos, but it’s a great way to get outdoors, PLUS get some cute photos of the two of you cozied up together.

PRO TIP: Use a clear umbrella to allow the most light possible on your faces for your photos.
