Chicago Summer Engagement Session

Written and Photography by CHI thee WED Curator, Emma Mullins Photography

Madelyn and Noah were living in Chicago for the summer and wanted a classic summer city vibe for their engagement photos. And I don’t blame them - who doesn’t love Chicago in the summertime? Luckily, the weather was on our side and I had a blast helping bring their vision to life.

We started our session downtown on one of the most lovely summer evenings. The Riverwalk felt alive with pedestrians and post-workday happy hour, and the golden sunshine made the city just glow. Madelyn and Noah were dressed to impress, and adorable as can be! I was especially obsessed with Madelyn’s East-West cut engagement ring, custom designed at Wilson Diamonds in Provo, Utah. Of course we took every opportunity to showcase it with the iconic Chicago background.

Our primary downtown locations included the Wrigley Building, Chicago Riverwalk, and Chicago Theatre. If you’re looking for the same downtown Chicago city vibe for your engagement photos - you can’t go wrong with any of these!

As the sun began to set, we headed toward Lincoln Park with their second outfits. The goal for the evening portion of our session was a more playful summer setting, where these two could really take in the nature and the views. Fun fact: Noah and Madelyn were getting ready to move out west for the fall, just days after our session! This was truly one of their last evenings in Chicago, and of course we made it count.

Finally, it was time to end our session at one of the most popular photo locations in the city: the pier at North Avenue Beach. This location offers a unique, unbeatable view of the Chicago skyline, and if you time it right you’ll get to experience a romantic, colorful sunset. These two enjoyed every moment of daylight we had left, and then ended our session by jumping in the lake! This is my new favorite way to end a summer session… thank you Maddy and Noah for being up for an adventure! All my best to you both in your marriage and future together.
