Independence Grove Wedding in Audubon Hall

Written and Photography by Karen Shoufler Photography

Paige and Nick’s Independence Grove wedding was another beautiful, although emotional day! When I met this adorable couple for their engagement session, the weather was cold with a wet, heavy snow. They rocked their session around their neighborhood and along the lakefront even though they were shivering and had wet hair and clothes.

Their wedding day was beautiful and cool, which was just amazing for July! On the way to the wedding, I got the awful news that Paige’s grandmother had unexpectedly passed away the morning of the wedding. While I never got to meet her, I know without a doubt that she must have been an amazing, kind, loving woman because her family is all of that and so much more. I met Paige and her bridesmaids at the Holiday Inn Express where they were all getting ready. Paige had the most beautiful dress and details, and the sweetest friends. She is blessed to have such an amazing support system in her family and friends. One of my favorite parts of the day is photographing details and hanging out with the girls, and while this time was filled with emotion and sadness over their loss, it was also filled with joy and hope of the wedding day.

Once Paige was all ready, we headed over to Independence Grove for the first look. It was such a beautiful, emotional moment as Nick saw Paige for the first time on their wedding day. I love that first looks give couples a mostly private moment or two together. I also love that the couple gets to spend more time together on their wedding day instead of waiting until the ceremony. I know Paige was so happy to have Nick by her side for most of the day.

The ceremony was held in Audubon Hall, located at the highest point in the preserve with the most beautiful panoramic views of the water. While Independence Grove has some lovely outdoor locations for weddings, this inside spot is perfect for hot, cold or rainy wedding days.

The reception followed in the same location, which allowed us to sneak away for a few photos during golden hour along the lake. These always end up being some of my favorite photos of the day and also allow the couple a few minutes to soak in the day.

Paige and Nick, I’m so happy that I got to capture your special day. I wish you a lifetime of love, joy, and adventure in your marriage. I am praying for your family at this time and wish you all the peace and support that you need during this time.
