Flower Power - Pressed Flower Cakes Are All The Rage!

Written by Curator Erin Martin of ECBG Cake Studio

Growing up I use to collect wild flowers and press them in between the pages of my books to flatten them until they were dried and preserved. I would use them in my art projects. It was so dreamy and so Jane Austen of me! After my wedding day I was gifted dried flowers from my bouquet. There is just something so LOVELY about pressed dried flowers. Slightly muted, slightly cracked, and very romantic… What a perfect aesthetic for a wedding cake!

That’s right! Pressed dried flowers is a HUGE trend right now for wedding and celebration cakes. Ever since introducing it as one of our signature style designs, people cannot get enough!

Why?

I think we’ve all dreamed of running through fields of wildflowers. I think we all love the idea of preserving something so beautiful for just a little longer, and I think we all love the soft and feminine appeal. Florals have and always will be popular on cakes. They are colorful, fun, and bright. AND just like every other industry, people like change and people LOVE options. Pressed flowers give you the chance to have natural florals on the cake while still being different… and so very boho!

The flowers themselves are so versatile, the ability to pick the colors and sizes, and shapes. Creating a gradient, rainbow or even a pattern with them can allow for so much experimenting. We love designing with pressed flowers because we can adhere it directly to either soft or cold buttercream in a clean and precise way. The versatility of these flowers is proven in just how many different events and celebration cakes they are used. They are perfect for baby showers and birthdays, engagement parties, and of course wedding cakes. I have a feeling this trend will be around for a while.

We LOVED how this pressed flower wedding cake was designed for this style shoot.
