Dericka and Jonathan knew they wanted their June 2022 wedding to reflect their dating experience…fun times in the city! It was especially important for them to give their guests a true taste of Chicago as they had family and friends traveling in from Jamaica and around the united States. Three words they wanted to describe their special day were: intimate, vibrant, and city-chic! So they chose a downtown restaurant venue on the Chicago River that helped to bring that vision to life. They loved having a mix of the bride’s Jamaican roots with Chi-town flare that was reflected in their floral choices, music, food, and even the signature drinks (Jamaican-ish Rum Punch and City Spritz). One of their favorite elements was having an amazing saxophone player for their ceremony and cocktail hour. So much so, that the groom was inspired to take sax lessons after the wedding! Even with minor hiccups and weather worries, the day was everything Dericka and Jonathan dreamed of and more. They will always remember the joy of celebrating under the big city lights with their loved ones!

Their backstory

Dericka and Jonathan first "met" at a Sushi spot in Downtown Chicago early 2018. However, it was really Cupid (aka the OkCupid app) that brought them together a few weeks earlier when they both swiped right. The pair hit it off and over the next few years experienced many Uber rides and fun Chi-town dates as their relationship continued to grow. Lots of happy times, some major life challenges, and a pandemic later, the rest is history.

After a few years of dating, Dericka and Jonathan knew they wanted to get married. They did something a little unconventional and entered into pre-marital counseling before actually getting engaged. For almost a year they were counseled by an awesome Christian couple who helped them to prepare for becoming ONE. The experience brought them even closer together and built a strong foundation for the journey ahead.

They officially got engaged in November 2021. After a nice dinner, the couple took a frigid stroll down to the Chicago Riverwalk - their favorite hangout spot. Jonathan asked the big question and Dericka happily answered "yes!" in a private moment overlooking the Chicago River!
