Velvet Vows: A Roger’s Park Romance in Crimson and Gold (Part 1)
Written by Moinyett, lead planner of Event Agency
“Velvet Vows” is so special to me. It was born from my love for romance, texture, and storytelling through design. Velvet, to me, feels endlessly romantic, bold, intimate, and timeless. I’ve always been drawn to rich textures when assembled thoughtfully, and this concept was about capturing a feeling: an endless romance that feels dramatic yet deeply personal.
The venue, Colvin House, played an integral role in bringing this vision to life. Tucked away in Rogers Park, it feels like a hidden gem filled with warmth, nostalgia, and vintage charm. Rogers Park is a neighborhood I’ve called home for many years, so designing within this space felt incredibly personal. There’s something about the historic aesthetic of Colvin House that evokes comfort and familiarity while still feeling elevated and romantic. It creates the perfect backdrop for intimate gatherings and micro weddings, which have always held a special place in my heart.
Rogers Park itself is beautifully diverse and full of character, and I wanted “Velvet Vows” to reflect that same sense of connection, individuality, and warmth. Every detail was intentionally selected to create an immersive experience rooted in sophistication and intimacy. From the velvet bows cascading along the champagne tower to the layered velvet linens, metallic accents, candlelight, and lush red roses, the design embraces textures in a way that feels both editorial and inviting.
While the initial concept for “Velvet Vows” did not include a dog, I’m so glad we intentionally incorporated Wags Of Love into the experience. They specialize in caring for couples’ furry loved ones onsite during wedding days, and their presence added an even deeper layer of intimacy and authenticity to the shoot.
For many couples, pets are family, and including them on a wedding day creates such heartfelt, meaningful moments. Adding a dog to the concept softened the editorial glamour in the most beautiful way and reflected the emotional warmth I wanted “Velvet Vows” to embody. Amidst the velvet textures, candlelight, and dramatic styling, those small tender moments with a beloved pet reminded us that romance is not only luxurious, it’s personal, comforting, and deeply lived in.
That balance between high-glam aesthetics and genuine intimacy became one of my favorite parts of the entire shoot.
For me, “Velvet Vows” reimagines wedding aesthetics for the August through November season. Rather than leaning into traditional fall palettes, this concept celebrates the richness and depth of the season through crimson hues, gold accents, dramatic textures, and candlelit intimacy. It offers couples a glamorous alternative that blends timeless romance with bold editorial drama.
At its core, “Velvet Vows” is a story told through feeling, one captured in candlelight, layered in texture, and designed to inspire couples who crave both sophistication and soulful intimacy on their wedding day. While captured during the day, the design is appropriate during twilight
An equally important part of bringing this vision to life was curating a vendor team that aligned intentionally with the concept. Every creative partner was selected not only for their artistry, but for their ability to emotionally connect with the story being told. Collaboration was at the heart of this shoot, and each vendor contributed details that elevated the shoot. Everyone was amazing to work with.
From the vintage elegance of the venue to the cinematic photography, timeless rentals, statement fashion, and delicate stationery details, every element worked harmoniously to create an experience that felt immersive and intentional. “Velvet Vows” was never just about aesthetics, it was about showcasing the magic that happens when talented creatives come together to tell a meaningful story through weddings and design.
