Let’s start at the beginning. How did you two first meet?
Matt and Kristin met on the dance floor at a mutual friend's wedding. Both of them were dancing solo to the band until they bumped into each other. Once they met, they danced together for the rest of the night. At the end of the night, Matt gave Kristin his business card earning him the nickname 'Business Card Matt' amongst her friends!
What makes your relationship special? Tell us some things that you both value in your time together.
We both absolutely love to dance, which is no surprise that's how we met. We also love to cook, and often we will cook while dancing to music in the kitchen. We also love going to concerts; music really connects us.
How did you know your partner was the one? When did you first know this in your relationship?
Kristin knew the moment she met Matt at their mutual friend's wedding. Kristin had just moved back to Chicago from New York the day before the wedding, and brought her best girlfriend to the wedding as her plus one. Once Kristen met Matt, she ran to her friend saying, "I met HIM!" For Matt, it came a little later at a concert in a tiny venue in Indianapolis. While watching Kristin dance to the live music, that's when he knew.
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise? What was the planning process?
Matt proposed to Kristin at her favorite spot in Chicago, the city they call home. He had planned a picnic at Fullerton Beach Park and after eating lunch, Matt asked Kristin to stand up for a photo. The wind blew her hair in her in her face, so she turned to brush her hair back. When she turned back around, Matt was on one knee. It was such a beautiful surprise! The crowd around us started to clap, and a few moments later, they started to laugh! We looked around in shock only to see that another couple got engaged about 20 feet away and only 20 seconds later!
We’re all about the bling... Tell us all about that ring!
Matt had one of his best friend's help him find the perfect stone, and then had a jeweler handcraft the setting. It is a solitaire in a platinum setting. He did a great job! In addition, Kristin's grandmother gave her a vintage Swarovski owl ring box. Unbeknownst to Kristin, Matt put the ring inside the ring box and that's what he used to propose.
Are you excited to start planning your wedding day? Do you have any ideas in mind yet?
Oh my goodness, yes! We planned an outdoor wedding in Colorado, in the mountains outside of Red Rocks. “
