On Set with Love Is Blind Season 2
Written by Curator Kate Johnson of The Bridal Beauty Team
In May of 2021, about a week before the filming of season 2 of Love Is Blind, I got a call from one of their producers asking if we were available for 5 days straight of filming. Working with Netflix with 5 bridal parties in one week… and get paid?! “Heck Yes for sure we can! Sounds fun!”
I called up the team to see who was available and didn’t mind being on camera. We got calls from the Local Union to work on our paperwork overnight and the call sheet was sent the next day.
When we showed up to La Banque Hotel we went through the standard covid rapid testing site and went in to set up. They had taken a bedroom, removed the furniture and set up makeup and hair stations, with just enough room for us and the camera crew. It was SWELTERING! I cannot express how hot this week was and since the cameras are running you can't turn on the air conditioning. Along with being 5 months pregnant… let's just say loose clothing was needed.
Day 1 the first bride to come in was Natalie…and she was crying. Now remember when you see the show on TV you know the whole backstory. We were arriving at the end of the journey for them and we had no idea who was who or what had happened. In fact I didn’t know who any of the guys were until I watched the show 8 months later with the rest of the world.
So here is Natalie and shes crying and to be honest all I'm thinking is… oh man she's gonna have puffy red eyes … who's got an ice pack! ….. no one of course haha. But she came in after her scene was filmed sharing about the argument they had had. We gave her some time to relax off camera and started the glam session with her and her ladies. We were instructed to keep the girls talking (Not hard, we do this every weekend! ) and honestly it just felt like a normal wedding morning…. Except there was a whole camera crew and you knew everything you said was being recorded… No pressure!
The next day we rushed to set, took the covid test and asked the camera crew … “ Did she say yes?” And we got the whole scoop! Wasn’t super surprising since we had gotten some of the low down from her off camera but ohhhh the drama!
Day 2 was Danielle and wow was she so sweet! She wanted full glam and was so excited for her day with Nick but nervous that if he said no would she be embarrassed on national television… ugh yeah that’s a legitimate concern! Mega Glam waves, Lots of Lashes and even more waterproofing spray sealed the deal cause day two was even more hot than the first day.
The next morning we ran again hoping that Nick said yes! And we learned that he was so hot outside and we offered again to the producers to waterproof spray the guys,… but they didn’t think they needed it…. Yeah they did
Day 3 was Mallory and what a beautiful girl! Her friends were a blast, sexy and fabulous and she wasn’t sure what she was going to say but her dress was totally fabulous. Now after seeing the show we thought… oh my gosh her naturally curly hair was EVERYTHING! We never saw it that way - she came with it straightened. This girl and her friends were like straight up model status
Day 4 and OH MY LORD COULD IT PLEASE COOL DOWN! I can't imagine getting married in this heat and I was glad we got to get in our air conditioned cars. In walks Iyanna …. Let me tell you this girl's skin was perfection and as bright as her smile. The way she talked about Jarrette you would think they had been together forever. He surprised her with some shoes she wanted and we knew this was an easy one…everyone was saying yes today!
Day 5 the final day! Deepti …. Ok first of all the Lehenga (dress) WOW that was incredible…and very heavy. We do a lot of South Asian weddings so it was fun to be able to do one this week. Deepti was quiet, has a killer smile and exudes confidence. Her family…. Oh so sweet and we wished we could stay to watch it all go down. We knew there was something… strange but she didn’t let us in on the secret. But since that was the last day there was no one to run up to the next day and ask what happened! Oh the torture! ( Now to be honest in march of 2022 we met a bride who knows Shake…. Apparently it was a pretty accurate portrayal)
So that's how that went! Covid tests, 100 degrees, l drama and oh so much fun! To top it off we were on camera and I joke to say my son was on Netflix before he was even born… Who can beat that!
But for everyone that wonders, yes we used the same products that we use on all of our brides because at the end of the day it's all on camera and everyone would shine…. But not be shiny.
