Scott + Matt’s Moving, Romantic, Chicago Wedding
Written by: Olivia of Olive Fine Weddings & Events
Celebrating Scott + Matt’s wedding was truly joyful. They’ve been engaged for nearly two years, waiting for a break in their residency schedules to kick off their marriage with friends and family in Scott’s hometown of Chicago.
They are kids at heart, which makes them incredible pediatric doctors, but it also creates a sense of joy that’s infectious. These two love Disney (they celebrated part of their honeymoon at the park in Orlando!), and as such, they surprised each other with sweet gifts the morning of their wedding -- Matt gave Scott a Mickey “Husband” t-shirt, while Scott surprised Matt during their first look with “Groom” wristbands for the park.
On their perfect June wedding day, they strolled through Millennium Park with Nicodem Creative to capture their first look and couple portraits, and met their wedding party at the Mid America Club for a moving ceremony, officiated by two of their best friends.
Guests enjoyed cocktail hour and dinner 80 floors above Chicago, while Matt + Scott shared their first dance and cake as husbands.
Before the dance floor opened, Scott’s father gave a toast in which he quoted Justice Kennedy’s majority ruling from the landmark Obergefell v. Hodges case, signed into law on June 26, 2015, just 4 years and 4 days before Matt + Scott’s Chicago wedding: “No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice, and family. In forming a marital union, two people become something greater than once they were. As some of the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage embodies a love that may endure even past death. It would misunderstand these men and women to say they disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization's oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.”
Matt + Scott danced the rest of the night away with their closest family and friends, capping off the night with a spectacular view of the Navy Pier fireworks.
Congratulations, Matt + Scott!
