Gaelic Gold & Green Wedding Inspiration

Written and Photographed by Alex Marquardt of Alexandra Lee Photography

“My inspiration for this shoot came from an Irish-style wedding I was a guest at a few years back. I took a different take on their wedding and was inspired by the green and gold this color scheme that is usually used for Irish themed things and events. Gold with pops of hunter green, is rarely used in weddings in general so I thought it would not only be a beautiful shoot, but unique.

Knowing that I wanted to use this color scheme, all of the other details kind of just fell into place. Doing a Gaelic wedding meant using my beautiful Irish friend, Colleen and her boyfriend, Charlie. Colleen is very Irish and her birthday is even on St. Patrick's Day! Scrolling through the pictures it’s obvious they were the perfect fit for this shoot.

As far as location goes, this one is one of my favorites. I’ve used it for many shoots in the past especially when Alexandra Lee Photo was just starting. This location is actually a field behind my middle school (Go Huskies)! I thought the green and gold would look divine in this setting.

I wanted to have a rustic, elegant look to the furniture pieces so I used Elements Preserved because they have many beautiful, vintage pieces.

Cacao Sweets and Treats delivered and created something beautiful that was exactly what I wanted to go with this color scheme.

I absolutely adored how organic and stunning the florals were done by Alyssa Jackson Floral Designs. I was interested to see how a florist could play with the hunter green and gold and I can say I was not disappointed on bit with these florals. Alyssa is a dream to work with!!

Originally I wanted a long sleeved, lace dress for this shoot, but once I saw this wedding dress from the Crystal Bride, designed by Watters, I knew it was the perfect match. The color of the dress just blended in beautifully with the color palate.

And who else to do my hair and makeup none other than, Tamara Holden Hair and J Costa Artistry! Tamara is a hair god. Colleen has very curly, natural hair and Tamara took her beautiful texture and played with it and not against it to create a very pretty, simple, elegant off the face look. Jenni from J Costa Artistry played with Colleen's gorgeous natural features and brought in the gold and green vision and created it in make up form. I am never ever disappointed with the work done by these amazing women!

BBJ Linen is always my go to for linens in the Chicago area. They have everything anyone can need! The champagne colored liner was the absolute perfect touch and I think tied in well with the dress. The ivory napkins kept things clean and stunning.

Ashley from the Paper Love Club gave me more than I could of ever wanted! Her cotton handmade dipped dyed paper was breathtaking! Ashley put hard work into every detail from her hand written calligraphy, wax seals, and handmade paper. These are invitations one would hang on their wall!

The day was full of laughter, love, and so much creativity and hard work and I couldn't of loved this shoot more! This is an amazing team of vendors and you can tell how passionate each and every one is about their work.”
