Vendor Spotlight - Monroe Street Photography
Today we are THRILLED to introduce you to one of our Community Members, Ashley of Monroe Street Photography! We had the pleasure of getting to know this #bosslady and how she got started in the wedding industry! We are digging her vibe and gorgeous photo style!
Tell us a little more about you!
“I actually began a career in aviation right out of high school. Photography remained a hobby of mine for a long time. I spent 10 years in the aviation industry and two years ago I left to make photography my full time job. I rebranded in January and I am just over the moon with how this year has turned out. Weddings are an addicting event to photograph. Each one is a unique experience because every couple has a particular style. Not only are weddings so magical but I absolutely love getting to know each and every couple”.
What is your most memorable moment photographing weddings?
”This year I had an engagement session in Chicago and the couple was electric. You could tell how much they loved each other. I didn't have to lead them they just did what came natural to them. It was so simple and about being together. It was special for me because it made me realize that this is why I do what I do - if you love someone you just love someone.”
What is your most important wedding accessory?
“My apple watch -it helps me keep time for everything, and I can have my timeline right there. It is the one thing I can keep everything on and do it discreetly. I also always keep a little bag of decorative things for detail shots”.
If you had a dream celebrity couple to photograph who would it be?
“Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher - I am a huge that 70’s show fan so when they actually got together I was like OMG! I am a parent and the way Ashton speaks about parenting is really refreshing.”
What is your favorite wedding tradition?
“The first look - I know that seems generic but there's just something about seeing your partner for the first time alone. It just makes for some really special moments and the nerves melt away I always think WOW why have people not done this until recently!”
What is your favorite place that you’ve visited or photographed?
“It is the Temple in Evanston - it is so beautiful and peaceful.”
What is some advice you have for newly engaged couples?
”Take your time, interview a few vendors from each category to make sure you are getting exactly what you want. Take your time, begin looking for vendors at least 6 months in advance. Planning ahead will only help to make your wedding day as smooth as possible. One important thing to me is that a couple should never ever feel uncomfortable with any of their vendors. Surround yourselves with people that you can easily communicate with, it should not be a difficult process.
Is there anything else you want to tell us about yourself or Monroe Street Photography?
“Something I really want couples to know is that I am inclusive. My intention is to capture people authentically, I want them to remember what it felt like to be in those moments. I am also always open to collaborate, currently I have a great team to work with on an upcoming wedding styled shoot. I can't wait to share that! "
